A successful model.

But the company also began generating work during slack periods. Construction projects have intense periods, after which the workload drops significantly. The aim was therefore to provide continuity to highly qualified people who had worked on the projects, so that they could keep developing their skills.

“Based on that concept, we began building a very strong technical team from an electrical engineering standpoint,” explained engineer Daniel Vázquez, the company’s current President and CEO, referring to the strengths that made Ingener a leader in our country.

“It was quite natural to move from service and maintenance tasks—which remain a pillar of the company—to carrying out the works directly. And in the energy world, UTE is obviously a natural client for this kind of infrastructure work. The reality is that our company has grown with UTE. It has allowed us to consolidate our technical team. The emergence of renewable energy certainly contributed greatly to our development. Although many projects were for private companies, the end client is UTE itself,” he noted.

With 100% national resources, Ingener has established itself at home and abroad as an expert turnkey company in engineering, construction, commissioning, and operation and maintenance services for the energy, industrial and services sectors.

“All the experience we gained working with UTE in every respect allowed us to go further and work abroad as a Uruguayan company. When Uruguay completed its renewable energy investment cycle, Argentina—which was somewhat behind—embarked on that path. We went there with all our experience, we took that step and it went very well,” added Daniel Vázquez.

That first step provided a firm foothold in other countries, and Ingener now has strong operations in Paraguay and Bolivia. “All of them linked to energy projects,” he added.

Today, with this international presence, Ingener moves people and talented technicians from one country to another to optimize the projects it delivers for its clients, wherever they are.

“Ingener has achieved a sound workload across the whole region. This keeps alive the DNA our founder, Omar Braga, left us: covering those slack periods, always within a close-knit environment,” he emphasized.

The reputation the company has built in the region, together with its highly qualified technical team, now allows it to enter another very interesting field: exporting engineering. “We got here thanks to the know-how acquired through our projects with UTE. It is a smaller team of engineers who work by interpreting what the client wants once they receive the information,” he explained.

“We continue to apply the principle of ‘accelerating through the curves’ as our growth philosophy, just as Omar Braga taught us.”

Interview with Daniel Vázquez in the Special Supplement of El Observador for UTE’s 110th anniversary.
