500 KV Melo Frequency Converter Station (50/60HZ)

Driven by UTE, Melo Frequency Converter Station is located 16 km away from Cerro Largo capital city and enables the interconnection of Uruguay (50 Hz) and Brazil’s (60 Hz) extra high voltage transmission networks. The engineering work comprised the design, installation, production and erection of all equipment and the commissioning of the converter station.
It was carried out the assembly and erection of the 525 kV and 500 kV switching substations connecting the converter station to the respective transmission lines that interconnect the Uruguayan and Brazilian grids.
The work carried out by Ingener included the:
• assembly and erection of metallic structures (towers and beams)
• erection of supports and HV equipment (500kV)
• construction of overhead conductors (antennas and overhead ground wires) in the 525kV and 500kV substation.
• construction of power cables in conduits for the equipment (control and power = 70 km)
